Digital Photography-SLR a keen photographer’s choice.

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Let's just say that you're the kind of person who wants to take superb still shots, and wasn't at all keen on a camcorder. The obvious choice would be for you to purchase a digital SLR.  If you were already an SLR enthusiast when it came to film cameras, then check your brands because often the lenses on your older style camera will be interchangeable on your new digital SLR. One thing to take note of is that the effective focal lengths will change because the sensors in DSLR's are smaller than in the 35mm SLR cameras. Usually, the effective focal length will be 1.5x the length of the 35mm setting. When deciding , you might want to ask yourself such questions as.. Is there the capacity for a long optical zoom?

..  Is there a feature of continuous shooting?

..  Is there in camera editing?

..  Does it accept interchangeable lenses?

.. Are there contrast, saturation and

                                           sharpness adjustments?

The list is longer than this is you really want to define your needs for a digital camera, but these are definitely points worth considering. Until the next time, enjoy this wonderful hobby/work.

Digital Photography-Choosing Your Camera.

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Another fairly obvious, but important question to ask yourself is….

What sort of pictures do you want?  Perhaps you may prefer to record events in video. Although most digital cameras have a video and a still function, you would be disappointed if you wanted to focus mostly on video, and had bought a standard dc.   If this be the case, then you would be wise to go for one of the many excellent digital camcorders on the market.  If not, then you need to focus on a digital camera that takes stills. Most cameras these days are at least 5 megapixels, and will produce a good quality A4 photograph. Megapixel refers to the total number of dots available for the picture.  A 5 megapixel camera would have 5 million dots in the picture, so as you enlarged your photo you would have less dots. This would only be a problem if you were enlarging to say poster size, in which case, you might decide to choose an 8-10 megapixel camera.  Researching these aspects will ensure you have chosen a camera that you will be extremely happy with and which will suit the type of digital photographer you are.

Digital Photography- Which camera to choose?

Friday, April 4th, 2008

If you're interested in digital photography, then you've probably already bought a digital camera, but have decided upgrade because by now the resolution isn't high enough, and you want a few added features.  Rob and I have spent over 20 yrs in a photographic business (still there) and we have noticed that the first thing that you want to ask yourself are the following questions…..

1. Are you the kind of person who wants a simple, easy to use camera which you can just 'point and shoot" and produce good, standard size photos?

2. Do you want a little more than just the ability to 'point and shoot'. You might want to learn more about your digital camera using the manual control functions to create the effect that you desire. If this is the case, then you will need to consider a camera with a few added features. More about this later on.

3. The other category is some-one who wants to be able to take full control over all camera functions, and who understands the exposure, focusing and flash controls. In this case, you will need to consider buying a more advanced camera. At a later post, I would like to discuss just which features are important to each user, but prior to that it is important to establish the type of pictures you want to shoot, and, whether these be saying still or video.  More about that later on. If you want to read up and study more on digital photography, then I would encourage you to check the links below..
